Join Erik Herzhauser's lecture on the evolution of automotive architectures at VECS 2024
Erik Herzhauser is working as a Solution Consultant for Bosch Engineering and is one of the speakers in Track F Software Development & Digitalization on the second day of VECS 2024. Erik is enthusiastic about new topics in the automotive world and loves working at the cutting edge of technology. His focus is on end-to-end solutions, and he inspires his customers to do the same. We got the opportunity to ask Erik a few questions and he shared his thoughts on software development.
Could you please introduce yourself and your work at Bosch Engineering?
I am Erik Herzhauser and I am working as a Solution Consultant for Bosch Engineering. A role that assesses customer´s needs, recommends suitable products or services, and provides expertise to ensure effective implementation and satisfaction with the solution for the end-customer. Basically, I bridge the gap between technical and business requirements.
What will you speak about at VECS 2024?
I will talk about the challenges that OEMs face moving towards software-defined vehicles and our approach to identify right-sized solutions along the way.
When it comes to Future Software Development, your presentation title contains the phrasing “Gathering for the Collaborative Revolution”. Could you elaborate on that?
Solutions for software-defined vehicles are rarely focused on technical aspects only. Especially organizational topics, shifting of responsibilities and tasks between OEMs, service suppliers and Hardware/Software suppliers require a new level of collaboration and business models. As the established silo mindset does not allow that currently, I want to invite the audience to join the revolution and transform to jointly create excellent solutions.

In your opinion, how can we increase speed in software development?
By setting up the right framework which considers business, vehicle architecture, processes and organization – in this order. But, and this is important, not to lose yourself too much in details. Stop trying to add all aspects of each and every vendor’s tray to a big picture.
What is the most important thing you would like to share in your presentation?
Collaboration is key! “Software-defined vehicle” is not the target of OEMs. The targets are specific fields and features that are enabled by new architecture and shared value creation for the end-customers and OEMs. You can start exclusively revolutions where revolutions are required – there is no “one-size fits all”, focus must be on what is to be enabled!
Remember that it does not have to be a rough road to software-defined vehicle. There are already paved paths. And finally, share insights on experiences and learnings.
What are you most looking forward to by attending and speaking at the event?
I am looking forward to gaining more insights about the targets on enabling of participants. I would also like to exchange on challenges and learnings as well as identify potential for further deep dives and collaborations.

Erik Herzhauser is an experienced automotive professional with expertise in technical sales, product management, and systems engineering. He has worked at Bosch Engineering GmbH for more than 12 years in various roles, currently as a Solution Consultant Mobility Systems specializing in the technical sales of End-to-End Mobility Solutions. Erik holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and has made significant contributions to the advancement of mobility solutions.
